I recently had a chance to share some recipes with my only culinary teacher (my mom) who laid down straight fire in the kitchen. And during the swap she introduced me to a few new tricks to do with one of the most versatile ingredients I know. The Pillsbury baking dough. One of my favorite recipes she showed me is a cheesy, bacon roll up! But after doing some shopping I was inspired to mix it up and try something else out. The end result is buttery, and crispy pizza pinwheels. Its basically a pizza roll prepared in uniquely different way.
As always, it is extremely cheap and easy to prepare taking only 10 minutes to cook up. There are only 3 ingredients needed to make this delicious meal. You’ll need some pepperoni’s, shredded cheese, and a tube of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls dough.
Step 1. Crack open the tube of dough and carefully unroll. I separated the dough into two halves along the perforations in the dough.
Step 2. Cut your pepperonis into smaller pieces and layer evenly across the dough rectangles along with your shredded cheese. I like to spice it up so I made it with some pepper-jack cheese but if you wanna go tradition you can use mozzarella or an Italian cheese blend.
Step 3. From the short end of the rectangle, roll the dough over itself into little roll up. Its best if you roll it tight. Then with a serrated knife, cut the roll into 6-8 pieces. Spray a cooking sheet with cooking spray and place the rolls cut side down on the cooking sheet.
Step 4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and place on the center rack for about 15 minutes or until the dough has turned a nice golden brown. Keep an eye on it when it gets close to 15 minutes because the cooking times may vary. Allow to cool for a minute then remove from the cooking sheet and serve immediately.
I enjoy eating these with some ranch dressing and pizza sauce. Marinara is also a great sauce to dip these little pinwheels up! You can also switch it up and do a veggie pizza roll up for a healthier option with white pizza sauce to dip in!
