While getting ready for all the football action coming up this weekend I decided that I would work on a solid meal for you and the boys to enjoy while watching your team crack some skulls! Everyone knows the traditional fall back plan of cooking up some quick burgers or hot dogs for the game so I am going to switch it up with a mountain of chili-cheese hot dogs to make an epic meal for you and up to 3 of your hungriest friends.
Tha Dogg Pound is actually a collaboration from my good friends Jimmy Bluntski and Halli J. Without their help I couldn’t have made this glorious meal!
The ingredients for this dish are the basics needed for making old fashioned chili cheese dogs! This dish is meant to be a feast on one plate that everyone can just dig into while watching the game.
Ingredients: 2 hot dog buns, 1 pack of hot dogs (about 6 dogs or so), 1 pack of bacon (about 5 strips), shredded cheese, 1 can of chili, and 1 onion.
WARNING! This meal will instantly cure hunger and possibly earn you a 6 pack from your friends!
Step 1. Begin to fry up your bacon in a frying pan. After they’re cooked on one side flip them over and make room for your hot dogs.
Step 2. Take a knife and put a slit in all the hot dogs going lengthwise (or hot dog style). Put them in the hot pan with the bacon grease to keep them from sticking to the pan. Be sure to keep checking on them and rotating as needed to prevent burning.
Step 3. While your bacon and hot dog are finishing up, throw your can of chili in a pot and heat up on medium heat.
Step 4. Once everything is done cooking take them off of the heat and set aside to cool while you dice up half of the onion.
Now it is time to assemble the Tha Dogg Pound!
Step 5. Lay 2 hot dog buns down, side by side, face up, and completely opened up. Next lay your bacon strips across both buns creating a nice layer of bacon.
Then sprinkle a pinch of cheese onto the bacon forming the next layer.
Now layer your hot dogs across the cheese! Feel free to sprinkle even more cheese on that if you want!
Now slowly drizzle your chili over the top of the entire mountain of food and garnish with another pinch of shredded cheese and the half diced up onion.
And that’s all there is to a great filling gameday meal for you and a couple friends!
